Starstruck

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

I was feeling particularly bored with my life and that I need a social life last week. My friend CC helped me analyze what’s going on and I realized that after ‘I Speak’, I haven’t done anything creative. I’ve passed on the party I’ve been invited to most recently, for the lame reason that I was just physically exhausted after hosting my godchild’s birthday party (I know, I’m getting O-L-D).

Then I realized that I haven’t done a Mad Science show for ages. I really miss doing birthday parties for Mad Science so i called Alona and asked her to book me ASAP for any BP that might come up and so she called me Friday night that i’m booked for a BP the next day and the celebrator is the son of no other than the most fabulous Pinay actress I’ve ever known: Cherie Gil-Rogoff. All together now: "You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying-hard, copycat!"

What a beautiful, classy woman! Even in a big t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops cannot hide her sophistication. This lady spells class. Her son, Rafael, who studies in British School-Manila (a school close to my heart), had a snake-themed party. (Between the two of us, I cannot help but notice that Rafael looks like an 8 year old Ricky Martin. Gorgeous.) She was really nice and kind and toned and tanned and just beautiful. Yeah, her ubiquitous nephews were also there: the Eigenmann brothers and they’re all good-looking. I also got to chat with her son from her previous marriage, Jay, 19 and he’s really cool and good-looking as well. But this blog entry is about Cherie Gil.

After being fed with corn dogs, nachos & pizza, Arv & I said our goodbyes to Rafael, Bianca, Mr. Rogoff and his beautiful missus. She thanked us for entertaining her kids. I held her hands and said it was our pleasure.

Gudani Schmoodani

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Yesterday at church, 2 interesting personalities showed up. One was Gretchen Barretto and her daughter and the other was Brig. Gen. Gudani. I am happy that many people are now coming to CCF and obviously interested to know God in a deeper way. What bothers me though is how Gen. Gudani is getting publicity in our church.

Gen. Gudani is currently under fire for going against GMA’s order not to testify in a Senate hearing. I am definitely NOT pro-GMA but neither am I pro-Opposition either. Maybe he’s telling the truth that he saw boxes of money (which he didn’t witness firsthand  because he has an "unnamed" witness who saw it for him), maybe he’s not. I am just uncomfortable that he is being heralded as a hero when the case isn’t over yet. I do admire his position in standing up for the truth and that’s very noble of him and he has taken the right step in running to God for protection and support, even declaring on national TV that he’s a member of CCF. I find nothing wong with that and I salute any government official who takes the bold step of exposing corruption, that is if they have not participated in any form of it at any point of their tenure. Sana malinis nga talaga konsyensya nila when they say that. But what if hindi? For example, Tumaob si Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson when he realized na ginigipit na siya ni Erap and his cohorts and to cut a long story short, he became instrumental in ousting the unworthy president (Praise God), thus considered a hero. But he participated in corruption in the past nevertheless, the going just got tough for him.

I just wish that our pastors would just pray for him in private, within their circles or within the confines of his current d-group and not give the notion that Gen. Gudani is backed by the members of CCF 100%. I squirmed in my seat yesterday when Pastor Peter called Gen. Gudani during the service and everyone started whooping and applauding for him. We don’t know the whole picture yet. Don’t jump into conclusions at this point so please save your applause, CCF-ers.

Another thing that bothers me is how this so-called "quest for truth" clamored by the opposition have banded the likes of Pres. Aquino, Susan Roces, Bro. Eddie Villanueva is actually a guise by those spearheading this "quest" to rally support for their vested interests (Did someone say ‘Hacienda Luisita’? I thought I did). I’m afraid that Gen. Gudani might be a mere pawn in this complicated game of politicking.

Speaking of Bro. Eddie, parang nahihiya ako na binoto ko siya. Being true to my fasyon spirit, I had my Vote for Brother Eddie shirt deconstructed into an off-shoulder shirt during campaign season. I don’t know what to do with it anymore. Sayang naman yung style ng shirt if I make it into a rag. Maybe he should change his prefix Bro. into Bo., short for Bother (-some) Eddie. Talong-talo na siya. Please lang, tumigil na siya. Respetuhin na sana ng lahat yung inappoint and I say this to all so-called "truth seekers". If Bro. Eddie has been reading the Bible lately, he would have known that there’s nothing in this world that came to being, whether kingdoms or powers, apart from the Lord Jesus. Simply put, GMA would not be in position had not God allowed it. Let the President get her work done. After all this has simmered down, we will realize we are the ultimate losers.

Fellow believers, I am not advocating disunity. I am advocating wisdom, knowing when to speak and when to keep silent; for faithfulness, to keep praying and working hard to bring the message of our Lord to our countrymen, if we really love our country. Let’s stay out of politics. Yeah, Nehemiah, Ezra, Esther were people who had close access to the leaders of their time and God used them for the salvation of Israel. But not all of us do and the best thing we can do is pray. This has eternal value.

I Speak

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

I was part of a musical variety show called I-Speak which was held last Saturday at Meralco Theater. It’s a production of my high school Jubilee Christian Academy and Jubilee Evangelical Church. I had a comedy/song/dance/video number and it was my first time to act crazy in front of many people. I played a social climber who "can’t get no satisfaction". :-) I’ve always had serious roles before and doing this was certainly a breakthrough for me. Together with me were gorgeous Trumpets actors Pam G, Joaquin Valdes, Gerald Yranon and Alex Compton (although he’s not from Trumpets, he’s definitely gorgeous). Musical Directors were Emlyn Santos and Reginald Tan. Script written by Luna Inocian/Ramil Mendoza and overall direction by Ramil Mendoza. It was a fantastic experience. I think I have a career now as a stand up comedian, hehe. But seriously, I really praise God for this opportunity to share my talents to draw more people into His kingdom. I think this is what I wanna do for the rest of my life.
